Hainrode - a charming location in Germany

Hainrode is a place in a charming location. There is a big stone next to the road to Hainrode. According to a tale, it was thrown to this position from a castle that is called Wöbelsburg, by a huge woman. When you go in direction of Hainrode you can see the Hainleite-Ridge, which begins in the region of Eichsfeld. The mountain range with the largest connected beech wood forest population in Europe, very varied mixed forests and charming valleys of meadows slopes gradually to the south, but it drops steeply to the north. There you can notice a wall of rocks that  nearly vertically comes down to the valley of the Wipper-River or by rounded hills.

The castle Wöbelsburg is situated on a hill and looms above the community as a famous landmark. It is a protected lawful archaeological monument of early history. A castle with a ring-wall had existed here in prehistoric times. Even today you can see the relics.

In an old chronicle you can read: “ In a time when Germany was full of forest and undeveloped the Hainleite was a part of the big Harz-Mountains. After the times of Heinrich the Kinkler towns and villages had been extended and large parts of the forest had been rooted out. Root out is in German “rodenâ€. That is the reason why lots of names of the villages end with “rodeâ€. In that time the Hainleite was separated from the Harz-Mountains.â€
