The castle Wöbelsburg is situated on a hill and looms above the community as a famous landmark. It is a protected lawful
archaeological monument of early history. A castle with a ring-wall had existed here in prehistoric times. Even today you can see the relics.

In an old chronicle you can read: “ In a time when Germany was full of forest and undeveloped the Hainleite was a part of the big
Harz-Mountains. After the times of Heinrich the Kinkler towns and villages had been extended and large parts of the forest had been rooted out. Root out is in German
“rodenâ€. That is the reason why lots of names of the villages end with “rodeâ€. In that time the Hainleite was separated from the Harz-Mountains.â€
